Unfortunately, the million-dollar App Store windfall is a mistake for some developers.

App Store Connect

Some developers had an exciting morning as a bug in App Store Connect corrupted millions of data application revenue. on the App Store for a while.

App Store Connect provides developers with analytics and data about apps submitted to the App Store. Although the system is quite reliable, minor problems arise from time to time that may result in data being reported incorrectly to users.

In messages to Mastodon on Thursday, the developers said that sales and income data contained completely incorrect information. In 24-hour mode, developers can see large spikes within a few hours.

As a result, App Store Connect reported to developers that they earned millions of dollars more than usual. Screenshots reviewed by AppleInsider showed revenue ranging from $2 million to more than $10 million in Jeff Johnson's case, trending more than 999% better than usual.

Another screenshot from James Thomson, who recorded “income” in $3.88 million shows that Apple is aware of the problem. The message at the top of the page states: “There is an issue with sales and revenue data in the 24-hour view from April 10, 2024 UTC. We are working to solve this problem.”

While the reporting glitch has some people worried this morning, in some cases it can cause serious problems.

For example, as @[email protected] suggests, a company that has automated App Store ad spend based on hourly revenue may find that their system has temporarily increased their ad spend. With millions of dollars in reporting, this could potentially be an extremely costly mistake.

Today we recommend checking your App Store Connect account and speaking with Apple Support about it if necessary.
