iPhone 16 Pro models dominate weak iPhone 16 sales

Ming-Chi Kuo says iPhone 16 Pro continues to be top seller, production continues even during China's Independence Day holiday to meet demand.

After the launch of a new iPhone generation, analysts check the state of the supply chain to see if there are any signs of a slowdown in demand. In the case of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Assembly orders in the supply chain are “unchanged” for now, according to TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a post on Wednesday. Indeed, suppliers have also been asked to continue producing Pro models during China’s National Day holiday.

Continuing to produce certain models during a typical holiday is a major sign of continued demand. Kuo says demand for the Pro models is “broadly in line with expectations so far.”

Despite demand, there has been a small reduction in orders for some components since mid-November. However, for Kuo, the reduction is “essentially insignificant,” amounting to between 3% and 5%.

These reductions also primarily apply to the base and Plus models of the iPhone 16. Demand for these models is said to be “weak” compared to the 2023 releases.

As for the Pro models, supplies at this stage after launch are similar to the iPhone 15 Pro lineup. Kuo adds that the current delivery times for the Pro models are actually shorter than the iPhone 15 Pro versions.

Kuo will focus on the supply chain, examining how demand and supply changes in the US market in late October, which will coincide with the release of Apple Intelligence.
