Investment bank JP Morgan reports that demand for the iPhone 16 lineup is about the same the same as the iPhone 15 in 2023, but delivery times for Pro models are getting shorter.
Because Apple doesn’t release data on how many iPhones it makes or break them down by model type, JP Morgan has been tracking delivery times. Its analysts previously said the iPhone 16 Pro Max was high, but all other models resembled delivery times for the iPhone 15 lineup.
In an investor note seen by AppleInsider, JP Morgan said delivery times have improved modestly across all iPhone 16 models. However, “the decline is particularly pronounced among Pro models.”
Overall, the improvement is slightly higher than it is at this point in 2023. However, JP Morgan concludes that demand is still robust, albeit slightly behind the iPhone 15 lineup.
This contradicts other recent reports that have suggested weak demand for the iPhone 16 lineup.
Specifically, JP Morgan’s latest tracking says that globally, the average delivery time for the iPhone 16 Pro Max is now 17 days. At the same point in 2023, the average delivery time for the iPhone 15 Pro Max was 19 days.
In the US, delivery times improved noticeably in the latest week of JP Morgan’s tracking. In week six, the company reported that the iPhone 16 Pro Max was taking 15 days to deliver, down from 21 days in 2023.
The numbers for China and Europe were similar, with iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus delivery times remaining stable. iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max delivery times improved by about five days.
Separately, JP Morgan predicted that Apple Intelligence would drive iPhone 16 sales and thus potential shipment delays. But in late October 2024, it noted that the expected sales boost had not yet arrived.
