The new USB-C Magic Mouse still has a charging port on the bottom

There are a lot of memes online about Apple's Magic Mouse because users have to flip it over to plug it into a charger. But if you thought Apple was going to change that with the new Magic Mouse released today, we have bad news. While it now has USB-C, the charging port is still on the bottom of the mouse.

The USB-C port of the new Magic Mouse is still on the bottom

Along with the new M4 iMac, Apple announced new versions of its “Magic” accessories for Mac on Monday, including a new Magic Mouse, keyboard, and trackpad. As we predicted, the new versions are virtually identical to the previous versions, except they now feature a USB-C charging port instead of Lightning.

But what about one of the most criticized aspects of the Magic Mouse? While Apple’s marketing images don’t show the new mouse from many angles, a 3D file used to preview the new iMac in augmented reality confirms that the Magic Mouse’s charging port is still on the bottom.

The first Magic Mouse was introduced in 2009 and stood out for its multi-touch surface. At the time, the mouse was powered by removable batteries, so users could simply swap out the batteries and continue using the mouse. In 2015, Apple released the Magic Mouse 2, which featured the same design but now with a built-in rechargeable battery.

The Lightning port for charging has been placed on the bottom of the mouse, which has drawn a lot of criticism from users. There is no way to use the Magic Mouse 2 while it is charging. While many claim that it only takes a few minutes to charge the mouse, that time can be critical when the battery runs out while you are using it.

Over the years, many people have come up with different solutions for the Magic Mouse design, including cases with the port on the side or with support for a Qi charger. The problem is that Apple locks the Magic Mouse out of action when it is receiving power. The same cannot be said for the Magic Keyboard or Trackpad, which can be used while charging.

Apple sells the new USB-C Magic Mouse for $79 on its website, and the black version costs $99 (even though they have the same hardware). The company does not sell the color versions that come with the iMac separately. You can still buy the Lightning version at a discount on Amazon.
