Safari will soon be able to show spatial photos and videos to Apple Vision Pro users, so that content taken on iPhone can now be shared beyond the Photos app and third-party apps.
Spatial photos and videos can be taken on the iPhone 15 Pro and any iPhone 16 model, but viewing that media has largely been limited to the Photos app on Apple’s Vision Pro. Third-party apps have tried to make it easier to share spatial media, but they’ve made the process even more complicated.
According to information shared with PetaPixel during a conversation with Apple product manager Della Huff and design team member Billy Sorrentino, spatial media is coming to Safari. Website designers will be able to implement the ability to show spatial media to Apple Vision Pro users and 2D media to everyone else.
“And at the same time, you can create all kinds of photos in spatial photos [in Vision Pro], including old historical photos,” Sorrentino shared in the report. “You can do it with all your old product reviews, you can do it with World War II photos, video game screenshots. I mean, what’s so cool about this technology is that it gives us the ability to take things into this next dimension.”
For example, social networks could allow users to share spatial photos or videos on timelines. Or sites like AppleInsider could include spatial photos in reviews.
Because the upgrade is additive, users don’t have to worry about exclusive content or missing out on value without an Apple Vision Pro. This change will be important as more people own Apple Vision products in the coming years.
