Russian site puts multiple leaked M4 MacBook Pro models up for sale

M4-powered MacBook Pros to be headline Apple's late October event.

A Russian classifieds site has reportedly posted not one, but many of the supposedly leaked M4 MacBook Pro models that Apple has yet to release.

First, in September 2024, a claim emerged that a user in Russia had an unreleased M4 MacBook Pro. Then the same model appeared on YouTube, again by Russian users. Now, the device has reportedly been listed for sale on Avito, with multiple units available.

Just as it’s still possible that the devices on YouTube are fake, there’s some doubt about the placement of the listings. All such listings appear to have been removed from Avito at the time of writing.

However, as first spotted by MacRumors, users on social media are posting screenshots of the Avito listings.

When machine translated, the tweet says that “an unreleased MacBook Pro with an M4 chip can be bought for ~$7,500 on Avito.”

The most important thing is that the listing reportedly did not list a single M4 MacBook Pro. Instead, there were multiple, implying that this leak is not just a rerun of an iPhone 4 accidentally being left at a bar.

It is unclear how many units were listed for sale, but the implication is that a batch of them was intercepted. Or, it is possible that thieves broke into the manufacturing plant.

Apple does not currently do business with Russia, so it would not be likely that a shipment to that country was stolen.

The alleged M4 MacBook Pro has three Thunderbolt ports instead of two. It comes in Space Black and has 16GB of RAM.

Separately, Apple is expected to release a new M4 MacBook Pro by the end of October 2024. The devices will go on sale on November 1.
