next The iPad Pro refresh with the M5 chip is still a long way off, with mass production of the tablet expected to happen in late 2025, an analyst claims.

The last iPad Pro release was in May 2024, marking the arrival of the M4 generation of Apple Silicon, making it the first device to use it. However, it could be quite a while before the next iteration becomes available.

Apple will use BYD Electronic to assemble more iPads in the future, according to a post by TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo on Medium on Wednesday. The post also briefly mentions the next iPad Pro release.

Kuo writes that the iPad Pro “equipped with the M5 processor” will enter mass production in the second half of 2025. He adds that BYD is expected to “significantly benefit” from Apple’s product launches around that time.

The mass production timing makes some sense, at least when it comes to the M5 chip.

The M4 iPad Pro launch in May was an oddity, as it was the first time the iPad Pro was the only product to feature a new generation of Apple Silicon. The first Mac updates using it didn’t arrive until the fall.

If the mass production timing is correct, that means the M5 iPad Pro launch will happen in the fall. While that would mean a year and a half between iPad Pro releases, it could also be a year between Mac mini and MacBook Pro updates.

A year between Mac chip changes is plausible, given previous product lineup updates, as is the shift in iPad Pro release timing.

Ming-Chi Kuo is well known for his high level of accuracy when it comes to Apple’s supply chain.

It’s also not surprising that Apple is working on the M5 chip, as insiders have spotted references related to it as far back as August 2023.
