Hawkeye State residents can now add their driver's license or state ID to Apple Wallet for use at TSA checkpoints, establishments, and businesses.
On Wednesday, the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that Iowa residents can now add their state ID cards to their iPhones through the Wallet app. The move makes the state the latest to join the Apple ID program.
The Iowa DOT also notes that businesses can accept digital ID cards through iOS apps like Tap2iD Mobile, VeriScan, and Mobile ID Verify.
In September, California became the eighth state to begin rolling out support for ID cards in the Wallet app.
However, Arizona became the first state to add support in May 2022.
Maryland also joined in May 2022. Colorado joined the program in November 2022.
Georgia followed suit in May 2023, allowing Peach State residents to add their ID cards to the app. In July 2024, Ohio became the fifth state to support ID cards in the Apple Wallet app.
Hawaii is currently in the process of rolling out support for digital ID cards, a process that began in August 2024.
AppleInsider and many state DMVs would like to remind you that a digital ID card is not a replacement for your physical license or ID card. You will still be required to show a physical ID card in many places, so it is smart to carry one with you whenever possible.
