iOS 18.2 with Image Playground and Visual Intelligence Now Expected in Early December

A new report suggests that the actual launch date for iOS 18.2 will be the first week of December, bringing new graphics tools including Image Playground and Genmoji.

The Bloomberg report backs up some previous claims of an early December launch. comes from Bloomberg, and the next update to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS is expected to bring several more major Apple Intelligence features that Apple originally showed off in June 2024 at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference.

iOS 18.2 is currently in beta testing, though developers have to join a waitlist to access future graphics features. In addition to the Image Playground image generator and Genmoji custom emoji engine, testers will also be working with Image Wand and ChatGPT integration.

The first tool uses Apple Intelligence to create a full image from a simpler sketch, as shown in Apple Intelligence’s WWDC explainer video. The ChatGPT integration is part of an ongoing Siri update that began with the new interface introduced in iOS 18.1.

Some Apple Intelligence features won’t be publicly available until early 2025. Bloomberg reported that iOS 18.3, which is expected to be a bug-fixing release, could arrive before the end of 2024 or early in the new year.

Betas of 18.4 and later are expected to arrive in March or April and will continue to add new features to Siri, including Personal Context and deeper app integration. Additionally, iOS 18.2 and later will finally begin delivering Apple Intelligence features to more countries and languages.
