How to Keep the Siri Remote Charged on Apple TV 4K

If you have an Apple TV 4K, it's not obvious how to check your Siri Remote's battery level. We'll show you how to find it so you know before it dies that it's time to charge up.

There were three generations of Apple TV 4K, and they all looked very similar, with the exception of the later Siri Remotes. The original model had a black remote control identical to the previous Apple TV HD remote, with a microphone button on the front for using Siri.

Later generations use an updated silver remote control with a Siri button on the side. All previous generations of Apple TV 4K remotes used the Lightning port to charge the internal battery.

The latest third-generation model has replaced the Lightning port with USB-C.

Check the Siri Remote battery level

For all these Apple TV 4K models, the procedure for checking the battery level of the Siri remote is the same.

  • In the Apple TV main menu, go to Settings.
  • In Settings, scroll down to Remotes & Devices .
  • Select Remote and the battery level should be displayed.

Next select “Remote” to see battery level and other information

Charging the Siri Remote

If you find that the Siri Remote's battery level is dropping or no longer responds due to complete discharge, you can connect a Lightning or USB-C cable — depending on your model — to the end of the remote control. You should then connect the other end of the cord to your computer or iPhone or iPad charger.

As long as the Siri Remote is connected, you can return to the Remote menu on Apple TV and see a visual indicator that it's charging. You can also return to this to check if the Siri Remote battery is fully charged.

According to Apple, Siri Remote takes about three hours to fully charge. With normal use, it will take you months before the Siri Remote needs charging again.

The battery should continue to function and charge normally for the life of your Apple TV. If for any reason your remote becomes unresponsive and can no longer be recharged, you can purchase a new Apple TV Remote from Apple or an authorized reseller.

Pair your new Siri Remote with Apple TV

If you ever need to replace your original Siri Remote, you can pair the replacement with your Apple TV. The new Siri Remote charges right out of the box, so there's no need to charge it first.

If you have a first-generation Siri Remote, you need to press and hold the menu button and the volume up (+) button at the same time for about two seconds. For the second generation Siri Remote, press and hold the Back button (

If pairing is successful, a message will appear on the screen. You can now use the replacement Siri Remote.
