APPLE

Apple is likely to produce a quarter of iPhones in India by 2028, not half by 2027 as predicted.

Apple plans to increase iPhone production in India, increasing it from 15% to 25% by 2028. This goal underscores Apple's commitment to building a robust network of local suppliers and reducing dependence on Chinese suppliers. It is also a reality check on the inflated forecasts made in recent reports.

Realistic Expectations

Previous reports claimed that 25% of iPhones will come from India by 2025 and 50% by 2027. However, Apple is likely to increase its share of iPhone production in India from around 14% to 25% by 2028.

This statement is supported to some extent by Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology of India. Chandrasekhar recently posted a screenshot of a local media report from this month, citing unnamed sources. The message highlighted the goal of increasing iPhone production in India by 25% by 2028.

Continued investment

How We&# Apple is reportedly focused on building a strong network of local suppliers to reduce its dependence on Chinese suppliers. There are currently 14 Apple supplier facilities in India. Analysts say developing the local ecosystem is critical to Apple's long-term manufacturing goals.

With an expanding list of suppliers in India, including Flex Ltd, Jabil Inc and Cheng Uei Precision Industry, Apple is positioning India. as a vital node in the global supply chain. This strategy not only increases production, but also supports the local economy by integrating more Indian suppliers into Apple's supply chain.

With Tata Electronics set to complete its acquisition of Pegatron assets and existing facilities being expanded, India is quickly becoming an important player in Apple's global manufacturing network.

At the very least, this reality check highlights the long process of diversifying iPhone production outside of China. Years of effort is nothing more than a one-day transition.
