Apple's App Store Security Statistics

In four years, Apple says it has prevented more than $7 billion in fraudulent transactions dollars, blocked 375,000 applications in the App Store due to privacy violations and suspended 3.3 million accounts for fraud attempts.

In its fourth annual analysis of fraud prevention, Apple detailed ways to prevent fraud attempts and blocked the appearance of so-called “problem apps” in the App Store.

In addition to the $7 billion in fraudulent transactions the company says it has blocked, it has also blacklisted 14 million stolen credit cards. In doing so, it stopped 3.3 million accounts from future transactions.

” Apple terminated approximately 118,000 developer accounts in 2023, down from 428,000 removals from the previous year, thanks to ongoing improvements aimed at preventing the creation of potentially fraudulent accounts in the first place ” Apple said in a message. Tuesday. “Additionally, more than 91,000 developer registration applications were rejected due to fraud concerns and prevented from submitting problematic apps to the App Store.”

And to prevent fake reviews, in 2023 alone, Apple blocked more than 153 million created customer accounts on suspicion of fraud. In addition, approximately 374 million accounts were deactivated for “fraud and abuse.”

In April 2024, Apple stopped 3.8 million attempts to install pirated applications as part of the Developer Enterprise Program. This covers 47,000 different applications that have been attempted over the past year.

In addition, 375,000 apps were blocked for privacy violations, and 38,000 were stopped for having hidden or undocumented features. More than 40,000 apps were rejected due to bait-and-switch activity allegedly similar to what Epic tried with Fortnite.

In 2023, Apple processed 1.1 billion app ratings and reviews. Of that total, the company says it removed nearly 152 million fake app ratings.
