Apple and A24 Working on Film Adaptation of Sam Bankman-Fried and FTX Cryptocurrency Scandal, Scripted will be written by Lena Dunham.
Both studios are in the early stages of developing the film, which is based on the New York Times bestselling memoir Going Infinite: The Rise and Fall of a New Tycoon by Michael Lewis. The book chronicles the rise of Bankman-Fried, followed by the discovery of missing funds on a cryptocurrency exchange and subsequent fraud charges.
Lena Dunham, who previously starred in and produced the HBO series Girls, as well as Camping and Generation, has joined the film, Variety reports. Her work on Girls led to eight Emmy nominations, as well as one Golden Globe.
Little is known about the film’s development yet, as it is in the very early stages of production.
The Bankman-Fried film is the latest project from Apple and A24, which also includes Spike Lee’s High and Low and Jennifer Lawrence’s murder mystery The Wives. The companies previously collaborated on Broke and The Tragedy of Macbeth for Apple TV+.
The Apple-A24 effort won’t be the only project depicting the events of FTX. Amazon has ordered a limited series for 2022, and Variety’s sources say another streaming service is working on its own show.
Apple was reportedly close to a deal to secure exclusive streaming rights to Michael Lewis’s book in 2022.
