A new leak, presumably from the iPhone 16, confirms existing rumors about vertically positioned cameras that could make shooting spatial video easier.
On Friday, well-known and dubious tipster Majin Boo published photos of what they claimed to be the camera module of Apple's yet-to-be-announced iPhone 16.
This appears to be the new iPhone 16 camera module, as you can see, the vertical orientation is confirmed pic.twitter.com/JWF5olGwQ4

Although Majin Boo's track record isn't very good, this isn't the first time we've heard this rumor. In May 2023, another leak from more reliable leaker Unknownz21 suggested the same vertical layout.
In December, renders of the iPhone 16 showed a similar vertical layout. Apple's reintroduction of vertical cameras into standard iPhones will likely be designed for spatial video capture.
With spatial video capture, users can capture 3D videos that can be viewed on Apple Vision Pro. For now, it is limited to the iPhone 15 Pro.
This rumor is considered “possible” not because of the source, but because of a number of previous rumors leading up to this point, all of which say the same thing. Majin Boo occasionally did the right thing, which usually came from other sources first, but more often than not, he got it wrong.
The iPhone 12 family was the last iPhone with a vertical camera.
