VisionOS 2.1 Developer Beta 6 Coming Days After Beta 5

Apple Vision Pro

In a surprise release on Friday, Apple released the sixth developer build of visionOS 2.1 for testing, days after the last build.

Apple had already offered a wave of beta builds of its operating system updates for developers to test earlier in the week. However, just four days after releasing build five, Apple has released version six of visionOS 2.1 for testing.

The new build is a surprise seeding from Apple, as it typically only releases one generation of betas per week. Two in one week is rare, and usually means a bug fix or change that’s so important that Apple wanted to test it immediately.

The October 14 build was build number 22N5573a, and the new sixth build is 22N5573b.

So far, the visionOS 2.1 betas haven’t brought any major new features or huge surprises. They’re still likely to include feature tweaks and performance improvements, as well as bug fixes, as is typical with Apple updates.

Apple Vision Pro owners who have signed up for the developer beta program can install the beta directly onto their headset.

AppleInsider and Apple strongly discourage users from installing test operating systems or other beta or RC software on “mission-critical” or primary hardware due to the remote possibility of issues that could result in data loss. Testers should therefore use secondary or non-primary devices and ensure they have adequate backups of any mission-critical data.
