Apple Music Unveils Top 100 Albums List, Guaranteed to Cause Controversy

Microsite “100 Best Albums of Apple Music”

Starting Monday, Apple Music announces a countdown of the top 100 albums selected his team, as well as artists and industry professionals.

Apple Music's best albums list will likely not end with Apple apologizing for them, as happened with the “Crush” ad, but it will certainly be harshly criticized for it. partly because all such lists are like this, and partly because of what has already been revealed about this list

.“100 Best brings together everything that makes Apple Music the ultimate service for music lovers,” Rachel Newman, Apple Music's senior director of content and editorial, said in a statement. “Human curation at its peak, an appreciation for the art of storytelling, an unparalleled knowledge of music and an even deeper love for her.”

“We've been working on this for a long time and we're all incredibly proud of it and excited to share it with the world,” she continued. revealing the top ten from the list, numbers from 100 to 91, Apple Music also gave an idea of its tastes. Seven of the top ten are albums from the 21st century, two are from the 1990s, only one is from the 1970s, and none are from the 1980s. x.

“Compiling this list has been a true labor of love, both because it was incredibly difficult to do and because we are all so passionate about it,” Zane Lowe, global creative director and head of Apple Music. The Apple Music 1 host said, “We were tasked with choosing the top 100—it’s almost an impossible mission.”

“But it was also amazing for music fans to take a moment and sit down and think about the music, albums and artists we love so much in this context,” he continued. “If this list sparks more discussion among fans outside of Apple Music and gets people talking passionately about the music they love, then we've done what we set out to do.”

It's not that this is uncharted territory. BBC Radio, for example, has asked listeners to vote for the Top 100, and Rolling Stone regularly updates its Top 500 list.

But the Apple Music version is presented daily on a special microsite. Presumably this is so that non-subscribers can see the list and argue about it too.

For now, the rows can start with number 100 being “Talk About Robin’s Body.” Hotel California by the Eagles simply beats it with 999 points, and George Michael's Listen Without Prejudice, Volume 1 has 91 points. For the full list, Apple asks you to check back today and daily until May 22, 2024.
