Apple will reportedly upgrade its entire Mac lineup to the M4 Processor will start in late 2024 and end with the Mac Pro in the second half of 2025.

Following reports that Apple is planning an M4 processor with AI capabilities for the Mac, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has revealed the expected release schedule for the entire processor. range. In his Power On newsletter, he says the transition will, unsurprisingly, start with the MacBook Pro.

According to Gurman, the plan is to upgrade these Macs to the M4 around the end of the year:

  • 14-inch budget MacBook Pro

  • 24-inch iMac

Then, from late 2024 to early 2025, the list will expand to include:

  • New 14-inch High-end MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Pro/Max processor
  • Mac mini in M4 and M4 Pro versions

After that, Gurman says that with Between spring and the end of 2025, Apple will complete the transition of the entire line to M4 in the following order:

  • New 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models
  • Mac Studio with high-end M4 processor class
  • Mac Pro with M4 Ultra

The fact that Apple is planning an M4 processor isn't much of a surprise, nor is it worth at least a little focus on AI supported. However, this roadmap is the first sign that no Mac will be left out of the update this time.

Because the Mac Pro was significantly behind the rest of the line in the transition to Apple Silicon, it abandoned the original M1 processor. Apple has since decided not to release an M2 version of the 24-inch iMac.

This marks the first time since the launch of Apple Silicon that every Mac in the lineup will feature the same latest processor.

There is little information about what the artificial intelligence functions in the M4 processor might be. However, Bloomberg previously reported that the M4 Ultra — codenamed Khidra — will increase the capacity of the single memory to half a terabyte.

It is also likely that Apple will continue to develop the existing Neural Engine element, presumably by increasing the number of cores.
