Under-screen Face ID appears to be a year away, with the latest rumors now linking it to the 2026 iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. models.

In April, on X/Twitter, Yang's initial roadmap claimed that under-display Face ID on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max would replace the existing camera cutout with only punch-hole front cameras.

However, Young changed the situation a little. He says he's heard that under-screen Face ID is being pushed back a year to 2026.

If its revised prediction is correct, the 2026 iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be the first to replace the notch and use Face ID under the screen. Non-Pro iPhone models may not get under-screen Face ID until the iPhone 19 launches in late 2027.

Yang also predicted technical changes to the iPhone 17 lineup, including a transition from low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) to low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) across all models in 2025. Starting with iPhone 14 Pro, LTPO display allows Pro models to have an always-on display while preserving battery life.

Yang stands by his prediction that all iPhone 17 models arriving in fall 2025 will use an LTPO backplane. This means the always-on feature will become standard on all models.
