The new Beats Pill has received its first firmware update since its launch in June

Beats Pill has received its first firmware update since its release.

Apple has released a firmware update for the latest version of the Beats Pill, though there are currently no details on the contents of the software update.

Tuesday’s firmware update bumps the build number to 2C336, up from the previous version 2C289 that shipped with the device. While Apple typically doesn’t provide release notes for Beats firmware updates, the software is likely to contain bug fixes and quality of life improvements rather than new features.

The latest iteration of the Beats Pill was announced in June 2024, twelve years after the original version of the speaker became available. It offers improved sound quality while maintaining the recognizable design and unique pill shape of previous generations. The new and improved Beats Pill replaces the Beats Pill+, which Apple discontinued in January 2022.

Unlike many other Apple products, Beats audio accessories don’t have a manual update method, with new firmware updates installed automatically. The update installs silently in the background, and users are not notified.

Users can check the version number of their current accessory on an iPhone or iPad by going to Settings, then Bluetooth, then tapping the Info button next to the Beats device. On macOS Ventura and later, users can open System Preferences, then select Bluetooth, then tap the Info button next to the accessory.

Android users can update the firmware using the Beats companion app while their Android device is plugged in.
