Satellite Roadside Assistance has expanded to the UK, allowing iPhone owners to call for help when they are out of cell service.

Launched in September 2023, Roadside Assistance via Satellite gave drivers a way to call for help if they were experiencing issues with their vehicle. While the initial rollout included the United States, it has just become available for use in the United Kingdom.

The feature requires an iPhone 14 or later and the user must be in an area without Wi-Fi or cellular coverage. If a user is experiencing an issue with their vehicle, the feature can be accessed from the Mobile Data section of the Control Center or the Satellite section of the Settings app.

After following the instructions to connect to satellite, they are given a short questionnaire asking about the nature of the issue, such as whether the car is locked or won’t start. The feature will send details, including the location of the user’s iPhone, to the assisting party.

To connect in the UK, an iPhone must be running iOS 17 or later. The country’s emergency partner is Green Flag.

Satellite roadside assistance is free for two years after iPhone activation. However, users will still have to pay Green Flag for its service.
