Original PlayStation games coming to iPhone with new Gamma emulator

Screenshots from the Gamma emulator in the App Store

Gamma, a free emulator of the Sony PlayStation original has been added to stores iOS and iPad applications on May 11.

Gamma is similar to developer Riley Testut's Delta emulator, especially in terms of the interface. Like Delta, it allows you to customize on-screen controller skins and includes support for Bluetooth controllers as well as wired keyboards.

It supports Google Drive and Dropbox to backup images of your own game discs, as well as automatically save your progress. Users can choose their preferred method or service to back up games as well as save steps.

No BIOS files are required for emulation.

In our initial testing of the app, there were some execution issues. But we are sure that there will be corrections. Longtime emulator developer ZodTTD has a rich history of creating emulators for iOS hardware, having developed early versions of — and excellent — Nintendo 64 and TurboGrafx emulators over a decade ago.

It will also display any in-game images for players once the game is launched. As per App Store emulator guidelines, Gamma is free with no in-app purchases.
