OpenAI Announces ChatGPT App for Mac, GPT-4 Free and More

At the Spring Update event, OpenAI announced that it will release a desktop application for Mac, as shown in the screenshot below. The app will be available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers starting today, with a wider launch taking place “in the coming weeks.”


“With a simple keyboard shortcut (Option + Spacebar), you can instantly ask ChatGPT a question “Additionally, Voice Mode will allow you to have voice conversations with ChatGPT directly from your Mac.

OpenAI already offers ChatGPT apps for iPhone and iPad and plans to release a desktop version for the app. Windows later this year.

OpenAI is also making some updates to the ChatGPT web interface, introducing a new home screen, a redesigned message layout, and more. The new look is “designed to be more friendly and conversational.” , the company said.

OpenAI also announced that it will make its all-new GPT-4o large language model available for free, meaning it won't require a ChatGPT Plus subscription to use it, OpenAI says. that GPT-4o provides “GPT-4-level intelligence” but is “much faster and improves its text, voice and image capabilities.” Until now, users without a ChatGPT Plus subscription have been limited to the older GPT-3.5 model.

It was recently reported that Apple is in the final stages of negotiations with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT on iPhone starting with iOS 18, which, as is expected to be unveiled at Apple's annual developer conference WWDC next month. iOS 18 is rumored to feature a host of new on-device AI features directly from Apple.
