Many Apple users keep their old iPads despite new releases

The need to replace older devices also differs between iPad and iPhone users. About 23% of iPad upgrades replaced their device due to loss, theft or damage, compared to 6% of iPhone upgrades. New data from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) shows that iPads are being replaced less frequently out of necessity, further increasing their longevity and usefulness.

This trend suggests that older iPads remain functional and in demand even after the release of new models. For many, the need to update the iPad to the latest version is less pressing, allowing older devices to perform more functions in the household.

Another important factor is the iPad trade-in market and the secondary market for iPads versus iPhones. Less than 10% of iPad upgraders sell their older devices, compared to nearly half of iPhone upgrades.

The difference shows that users value keeping their old iPads more than selling them. Moreover, the continued value and usefulness of older iPads often outweighs the benefit of selling them for little financial gain.

Apple's iPad remains a versatile and valuable device long after you first purchase it. The trend among users to keep or repurpose their old iPads underscores their enduring usefulness. Whether used or repurposed, old iPads continue to find meaningful use.
