HomeKit Insider Podcast

In this episode of the HomeKit Insider Podcast, your hosts break down the latest Apple smart home news and a few devices that have leaked ahead of CES 2025.

Apple continues to work on new smart home devices, with several rumors emerging this week. Including that it is working on new in-house wireless chips.

These are said to be coming to devices first in 2025, including new Apple smart home devices. The creation of these chips could lead to better connectivity between devices, which is essential for smart homes.

There have also been rumors that Apple’s new larger-display HomePod will have an LCD panel made in China, beating out several South Korean firms. They are said to be $10 to $15 cheaper, which is important for a low-volume product.

We expect to see several new smart home devices from Apple in 2025, including a full-sized HomePod, an updated HomePod mini, a new Apple TV, and a smart display.

Aside from Apple's rumors, we also received information about the release of a new TP-Link smart plug. The Tapo P210M is a wall socket that can be controlled via Matter and also features energy monitoring in the Tapo app.

Finally, we've got a few leaks of Aqara products that will likely be unveiled during CES 2025. There's a new presence sensor, a wall display, light bulbs, and a new camera.

The Aqara G5 camera is probably the most exciting, offering both USB-C and POE power options, full-color night vision, and HomeKit secure video. Finally, Aqara also promises support for Matter when it's finalized.
