New report predicts sales of new iPad Pro This will be affected by both the higher price than before and the appeal to consumers of the cheaper 13-inch iPad Air.

Trendforce previously predicted quite clearly that if Apple released iPad Pro models with OLED screens, it would ditch the previous versions with mini-LED displays. Now that Apple has done just that, Trendforce has released a report estimating potential sales of the new iPad lineup.

The report from research company Trendforce does focus on AMOLED (active matrix organic light-emitting diode) screens. It's a small but important OLED option that allows the iPad Pro to control every single pixel while consuming less power.

Trendforce is therefore focusing on how it estimates the total number of AMOLED screens shipped on any company's devices in 2025 will be approximately 9 million. It says this represents about 7% of the total tablet market.

As for Apple in particular, Trendforce estimates that the company will sell between 4.5 and 5 million iPad Pros in 2024. This is the total for the 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models. iPad Pro together.

Trendforce doesn't appear to have released any previous Apple sales estimates, but says its new forecast has been lowered to 4.5 million to 5 million. This figure is a decrease. Analysts say they are forecasting a lower figure in part because of the new iPad Air.

The 13-inch version of the iPad Air has arrived for the first time, and Trendforce believes this could dampen consumer interest in the iPad Pro. At base specifications, Apple sells the 13-inch iPad Pro starting at $1,299 and the 13-inch iPad Air starting at $799.

As Trendforce notes, the iPad Pro is $200 more expensive than the previous model. He attributes the increase entirely to the screen and, in particular, to the way Apple used so-called tandem OLED technology to avoid the burn-in and shorter lifespan previously associated with AMOLED.

So the combination of the more expensive iPad Pro and the new 13-inch iPad Air will result in lower sales of the Pro model. Again, Trendforce doesn't say exactly how much, only that in 2024 there will be “only” 4.5 to 5 million.

However, a previous estimate from supply chain sources said Apple had ordered 8.5 million OLED panels by 2024.
