Leaked New HomePod Part Shows Glossy Display Cover

HomePod may get a new display

Apple has long been rumored to be working on a HomePod with a full touch display that could show more than just a waveform, and a new leak offers a look at a potential glossy glass display .

HomePod and HomePod mini have a touch-sensitive glass surface, but are a simple panel of LEDs that show the waveform. Rumors suggest that Apple may update the HomePod with a full touch display with a graphical interface similar to the Apple TV, but nothing has been announced yet.

A purported detail image posted by X user @Kosutami_Ito shows the top assembly of the new HomePod display. There's no way to know how big the glass is without a reference point, but the leaker claims it reveals a glossy display cover.

A previous leaked image showed what appears to be a regular Homepod with a top glass capable of showing images. Other leaks suggest a 7-inch display is possible, but the HomePod's top glass is nowhere near that size, so the leaks seem to refer to two different design directions.

Like the previous HomePod leak, this part comes from a project called B720. It looks like this model will look similar to today's HomePod, but with a display on top.

Kosutami is a well-known source of information that collects products for design validation testing and other similar pre-production samples. The leaker has a short history with accurate leaks such as USB-C components for the iPhone 15, as well as some misses such as the alleged black Thunderbolt cable for the iPhone 15 Pro. They also published information about the new battery characteristics and heatsink of the iPhone 16.
