Apple's iPad Pro got a major upgrade this year, with an M4 chip, tandem OLED displays, a nanotexture option, and more. But the next version is already in the works, and now we have an idea of when to expect it.
The M5 iPad Pro will continue Apple's 18-month refresh cycle
Ming Chi-Kuo shared some early details about the next iPad Pro in a post about updates for two Apple suppliers.
Kuo writes on Medium:
The iPad Pro, equipped with the M5 processor, is expected to enter mass production in 2H25. The company's 2H25 business momentum is expected to benefit significantly from Apple's new product launches.
Kuo included this note in a section dedicated to BYD Electronic, a company that Apple currently contracts to assemble iPads (and soon the HomePad, according to the article).
The inclusion of the M5 chip is not surprising, since current iPad Pro models boast the M4. But it is nice to have confirmation of this detail.
More importantly, the timing for the iPad Pro is also in line with expectations.
Apple has historically refreshed its iPad Pro lineup roughly every 18 months, though sometimes longer. The current models were released in May 2024, so the fall 2025 debut of the M5 models follows a standard pattern.
Other known features for the M5 iPad Pro are unknown at this time. Since this year’s M4 models were such a significant upgrade, it’s likely we’ll see far fewer changes in the 2025 models.
Apple’s product launches in fall 2025
It’s always possible that things will change, but Kuo’s expectations for mass production in the second half of 2025 should also align well with the first M5 Macs expected.
If Apple follows its recent launch trends, we’ll see new iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods models at its September event, with the iPad Pro and M5 Macs arriving in October or November.
2025 isn’t quite here yet, but Apple’s big fall lineup is already starting to take shape.
