Finding the perfect wallet isn't easy, but Journey's Loc8 MagSafe Finder Wallet fits almost all the boxes, serving as an iPhone stand with Find My. and MagSafe.

Accessory manufacturers typically face the challenge of finding a balance between features without creating a refrigerator-toaster. Journey has managed to create a wallet that offers multiple functions beyond just storing cards.

I was struggling with conflicting desires to have a minimalist wallet with support for features like MagSafe and Find My. The solution to this problem has come in the form of things like the Snapback Wallet with a built-in AirTag holder or the Veci MagSafe Wallet with AirTag.

The closest combination of features was a full-size 2-in-1 foldable case with a removable MagSafe wallet and space for an AirTag card holder. This is a compromise that still sacrifices searchability when using the MagSafe section.

That's why the Journey Loc8 wallet caught my attention. It uses Apple's Find My network, has MagSafe, and is as minimal as it gets considering these features.

After several months of use, I think I have found a new favorite, although not without various compromises.

Review of the Journey Loc8 MagSafe Finder wallet — Design and Features

Journey isn't the first company to introduce a MagSafe wallet with a hinge. However, it is unique because it includes the Find My network tracker.

It's made of water-resistant vegan leather that holds five cards. The wide opening on the front holds three cards, and there are two slots inside.

The wallet is split in half with a hinge that's strong enough to support an iPhone when using the wallet as a stand. Since the iPhone can be connected via MagSafe, it can be placed in portrait or landscape orientation by holding it vertically.

The Loc8 MagSafe Finder wallet gets its name from the second half of the device. There are no cards on this side, but instead houses the Find My tracking technology, speaker, battery, charger, and MagSafe magnets.

The button used for pairing is hidden in the lower left corner. The internal battery is charged via a small four-pin magnetic connector.

Separation of components this way will likely prevent problems with overheating or magnetic interference. Cards are easily accessible through dedicated pockets on one side, while all the technology remains on the other.

The build quality is quite good, comparable to Apple's MagSafe wallet or Veci. The vegan leather is soft to the touch and one logo is hidden where the magnets are so it's not visible when attached.

Size and weight

The Loc8 MagSafe Finder wallet seems to have it all – — MagSafe, Find My and iPhone stand. However, due to its size, it's not exactly the ideal minimalist wallet.

When choosing a wallet, you'll have to make some compromises in terms of size or technology. Personally, I'd like to see a wallet that's as thin as possible without a hinge, while still retaining the Find My and MagSafe features.

However, the design of the hinge and the two halves at least has a functional purpose. That's why I'm willing to compromise on thickness and weight.

For comparison, I weighed several wallets that I had on hand. The weight is the wallet plus the AirTag or the AirTag holder, as applicable. Apple's MagSafe wallet doesn't have room for either.

Given these dimensions, it is clear that the Journey wallet is somewhere in the middle.

It's not as versatile as the Veci 2-in-1, but it weighs half as much. It's not as lightweight as the Snapback wallet, but it does have MagSafe and a kickstand.

We repeat: whenever a wallet company can find a way to have MagSafe and Find My in a wallet similar to Apple's MagSafe wallet, it will most likely be the perfect product. The Journey option is an interesting entry into space, larger than we would like, but not as massive and heavy as a full-fledged bifold.

It's about half an inch thick, which is twice as thick as the Apple Wallet. It's not that much thickness, but it does bulge in the front pocket.

The Journey Loc8 MagSafe Finder Wallet may be a big name, but it does what it says. It features a secure MagSafe connection, makes a great iPhone stand, is always handy, can be found using Find My, and can store maps.

The proposed Find My feature is basic because the Journey Wallet does not have ultra-broadband. Third-party accessories in Find My have a Get Directions action in Find My, rather than a Find action.

Depending on where your wallet is, this version of Find My can get you at least a few meters or at most a city block. Luckily, you should remember where you were in the area to narrow down your search.

If the wallet still can't be found, it can play a 90-decibel sound while you're within Bluetooth range. The sound is a joyful trill, similar to classic ringtones.

The internal battery that powers the Find My system and speaker needs to be charged approximately every six months. This is a proprietary charger, so it is important to store it in a visible place, for example, on a nightstand, so as not to lose it.

I usually keep my wallet in my pocket until I'm somewhere, like a restaurant or grocery store, where I need it. Then I take it out and attach it to the iPhone.

Using the Journey wallet instead of something like the Veci 2-in-1 fits my lifestyle better. I don't carry cash and need two cards at most, but sometimes a rewards debit card is useful.

Journey has an interesting ecosystem Find My Compatible Products, such as the Loc8 wallet. Its ability to accommodate different form factors to meet different user needs makes it a good choice for customers.

I was also sent a Journey Passport Wallet, Finder Card, and Finder Keychain. While none of them have the same capabilities as the AirTag, they fill a product space that is otherwise missing.

The Loc8 MagSafe Finder Wallet will be my favorite wallet for some time, but if I want to be more formal, I could use the Veci 2-in-1 with the Journey Finder Card. Such is the nature of an ecosystem like Journey — you're not limited to one product or form factor like Apple's AirTag forces you to be.

Buying a wallet is a very personal decision. I can't say that the Journey wallet will be a great choice for everyone, but it is a great wallet that does what it claims to do well.
