Jerusalem flag auto-prediction bug fixed in iOS 17.5 developer beta

Apple's second developer beta of iOS 17.5 fixed a bug that caused predictive text input to display the Palestinian flag when users entered “Jerusalem.”

On April 10, a complaint was received on social networks that iOS 17.4.1 had a bug in the autocorrect system. For some iPhone users, typing “Jerusalem” on the standard keyboard in iMessage prompted the Palestinian flag to appear in predictive text input.

At the same time, searching for Jerusalem in an emoji search gave the same result. However, the issue only existed for some users using certain languages, such as British English.

At the time, Apple confirmed that it was aware of the bug in predictive emoji and that it would be fixed in a future update.

AppleInsider has confirmed that the bug has been fixed in the second developer beta of iOS 17.5. In addition, checking other cities in the system does not raise any flags at all.

The existence of the bug is likely related to Apple's analysis of millions of texts using its machine learning systems, which has led to public outcry and claims of anti-Semitism amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.
