Apple's 2025 iPhone SE 4 upgrades go beyond OLED, with one report claiming it will also get 48-megapixel rear camera.
The iPhone SE 4 is rumored to launch in March 2025 with a slew of upgrades. A report from South Korea on Sunday said the list of changes is not yet finalized.
ET News sources say that LG Innoteck and LG Display are supplying the cameras and displays for the iPhone SE 4. In the case of LG Innotech, which previously only supplied the rear camera for the iPhone SE 3, it will also supply the front camera for the iPhone SE 4.
Mass production of the camera modules has reportedly begun at LG Innoteck’s plant in Vietnam. Due to the low price of the iPhone SE lineup, the company is expected to use existing components instead of developing new cameras.
As for the modules themselves, the front-facing camera is said to use a 12-megapixel sensor, which is the same resolution as the iPhone 16's front-facing camera. It's unclear if this will be a TrueDepth camera, according to the report, but the iPhone SE 4 is rumored to use Face ID instead of Touch ID.
The single sensor on the back is said to have a resolution of 48 megapixels, which is again the same size as the iPhone 16's Fusion camera.
This isn't the first rumor about a 48-megapixel sensor, but it's the most credible report on it so far.
LG Innotech won't be the only company working on the camera module, with Foxconn and China's Cowell Electronics also said to be in its supply chain.
As for the screen, it is expected to feature a 6.1-inch low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) panel, similar to the iPhone 13 panel in design. LG Display is apparently already mass producing the screen, but again, it will not be the sole supplier.
China's BOE is also said to be working on the OLED screen and could absorb a large chunk of the orders. Sources say LG Display will supply between 25% and 35% of the display panels.
