iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim, are expected to get ProMotion support again as rumors of the high-refresh rate feature continue to swirl.

ProMotion has long been a Pro-level feature for iPhones, with rumors occasionally circulating that it will be on all models going forward. Following the unveiling of the ProMotion-less iPhone 16, those rumors are now focusing on its arrival in the iPhone 17.

Apple is preparing to use low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) panels for all four displays on the iPhone 17, an industry source told ETNews on Sunday. This will include the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim, as well as the existing two Pro models.

LTPO is a display technology that allows smartphone displays to operate at a wide range of refresh rates, including both high and low refresh rates, with low power consumption. It also powers the always-on display used in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max.

ETNews doesn鈥檛 have a great track record of predicting future Apple products. However, the report adds to a growing collection of rumors about the feature and its future availability.

Multiple rumor sources have predicted ProMotion will expand to other models, including claims in July and September.

This isn鈥檛 the only LTPO-related rumor currently circulating. In late October, it was claimed that changes to LTPO in the Apple Watch Series 10 could lead to a technology shift in the future iPhone display.

Using LTPO3 could lead to even greater power savings. There鈥檚 also the potential to expand ProMotion鈥檚 refresh rate range, with the upper limit moving from 120Hz to 240Hz.
