iOS 18.2 Has the Best Apple Intelligence Features, Here's What's Coming

iOS 18.2 is just a few weeks away. It's a huge software update that includes some of the best and most powerful Apple Intelligence features yet. Here's the full list of AI features coming soon.

The Second Wave of Apple Intelligence Features in iOS 18.2

The debut of Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1 offered a lot of new capabilities, but what's coming next will be even better. Some of the most anticipated AI features are coming to compatible devices running iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2.

Here's everything coming:

  • Genmoji: Create your own emoji to use in any app.
  • ChatGPT in Siri: Siri can use ChatGPT knowledge, and you can even query ChatGPT directly.
  • Image Playground: Create original AI images in the style of an animation, illustration, or sketch.
  • Visual Intelligence: Use iPhone 16 camera control to get relevant information from your physical surroundings.
  • Image Wand: Turn your sketches or notes into beautiful illustrations in the Notes app.
  • Create with ChatGPT: The OpenAI assistant can create original text from scratch in any app.
  • Custom Rewrites: Apple's Writing Tools let you “describe your edits” for custom AI rewrites.
  • Language Expansion: Localized English support in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK.

A special waitlist for image generation access

When Apple Intelligence first launched in iOS 18.1, it came with a waitlist for users. The company is doing something similar with its second set of AI features in iOS 18.2, but only for image generation.

Once you install iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS Sequoia 15.2, you'll need to request explicit access to use image features like Genmoji, Image Playground, and Image Wand.

This special waitlist is driven by Apple’s Responsible AI principle, “Design with Care.” As the company describes it:

We take precautions at every stage of our process, including design, model training, feature development, and quality assurance, to identify how our AI tools could be misused or cause potential harm. We will continually and proactively improve our AI tools with user feedback.

At its core, Apple doesn’t want its AI tools to be used in a harmful way, whether intentionally or unintentionally. So it's slowly rolling out image generation access over a period of time.

iOS 18.2 Release Wrap-Up
