Regular tipster Sonny Dixon has posted a photo of a pair of cases believed to be for the fourth-generation iPhone SE, which could be announced in early 2025.

Current iPhone SE cases for the 2022 third-generation model feature a cutout at the back for a single camera lens and flash, and that cutout is echoed in these supposed new cases.

Likewise, the cutout for the mute switch is a staple of the current cases, and the leaked image suggests Apple isn't planning on changing that either.

The raised areas on the sides for the volume up/down and power keys are also proportionally similar to where they were on the previous model. However, this does not mean that any old iPhone SE cases will fit the upcoming new model.

New size, new style, new cases

The reason for this is that the next iPhone SE is said to be based on the iPhone 14 chassis, making it significantly larger than previous models. It is rumored to feature a 6.1-inch OLED screen, compared to the 5.45-inch display and LED-backlit panel of the current model.

While the cutout for the rear camera in Dixon's leaked photo is identical to the one on the 2022 iPhone SE, it is expected to feature a 48-megapixel camera. This could be similar to the iPhone 15, with a 12-megapixel selfie camera in a Dynamic Island on the front — both significant upgrades.

The next iPhone SE is expected to replace Touch ID with Face ID and replace the Lightning port with a USB-C connector. Given the move to Face ID, the fourth-generation iPhone SE will get a notch — and at least some, if not all, of the Dynamic Island features.

However, there have also been reports that the next iPhone SE will support Apple Intelligence, implying that it will be based on the A18 chip and come with 8GB of RAM.

The exact release date of the new iPhone SE remains unknown. Conventional wisdom and the iPhone SE's track record suggest a spring 2025 launch.

If all or most of these reports turn out to be true, Apple will likely discontinue the iPhone 14 when the fourth-generation iPhone SE launches, as the two models will be very similar. It's unclear whether the iPhone 14 Plus, which is currently still on sale, will also be discontinued.
