Apple Music subscribers can allow third-party apps to access the app and their music collection. Here's how to give this access to other apps on macOS.
Apple Music on Mac has a little-known feature that allows third-party apps to access your music collection.
For example, you can use it to connect smart speakers like Amazon Echo to play songs and playlists from your Apple Music account. The apps may also offer other features, such as a music game that allows players to add their favorite tracks to an Apple Music playlist.
These are handy things, but not every app needs constant access to Apple Music data. In some cases, you may need to remove this access completely.
But to use this feature, you need to subscribe to Apple Music first.
To do this, make sure you're signed in to your Apple account in the Apple Music app, then select Account->Join Apple Music from the menu bar in the Apple Music app to macOS.
When you join Apple Music, you get one month free, and then each month thereafter costs $10.99.
Once you've joined Apple Music, select Account -> Apps with Access, also from the Music app menu bar. A panel will open with a list of third-party applications that support Apple Music available for use.
Choose which apps to share Music with.
Select the apps you want to share and click Done . This will give third-party apps access to your music library stored in Apple Music.
You can now use these third-party apps to play your music collection.
The same menu item is also used to block access to applications. Click Remove next to each app you want to disconnect from Apple Music, and then Done
