The Clicks keyboard for iPhone is back, and they hit all the right buttons — literally. I had a chance to get my hands on the latest model, and it's clear Clicks did their homework. From ergonomics to additional features, here's what caught my eye when I first laid eyes on their version 2 product.

Improvements from Gen 1 to Gen 2
Last year, I reviewed the first generation of Clicks keyboard for the iPhone 15 Pro max, and overall I liked it. However, the first version was missing some quality-of-life features, which left me wanting more. Now, with the second version of their product, Clicks has clearly listened to user feedback, addressing almost all the major issues:
- Improved Materials: The new model uses matte metal keys and a premium finish that not only improves the aesthetics, but also improves durability. Something as simple as adding clickable buttons for tactile feel and a microfiber lining for protection really improves the experience.
- MagSafe: A highly requested feature (by me), MagSafe integration means users don’t have to choose between the keyboard case and the ability to use a Magsafe stand or other Magsafe accessories.
- USB-C Data Passthrough: Using the built-in USB-C port to transfer data, not just power, is a huge benefit. Customers can now connect external hard drives for data transfer, but more importantly, they can use wired Carplay without removing the case.
- New Ergonomic Key Design: Larger, contoured keys improve comfort and reduce strain, making typing smoother and more enjoyable.
- Customization via the Clicks Keyboard app: A dedicated app lets users personalize the backlight, customize typing settings, and set up shortcuts, adding significant customization not available in the previous model.
Notable Specs
- Device Compatibility: iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max; iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus (later this year)

- Supports shortcuts for smart home controls, apps, and system functions
- Ergonomically redesigned keys with a contoured shape for comfort
- Customize with the Clicks Keyboard app
- Build Materials: Brushed metal side keys, microfiber interior, premium finish
- Color Options: Surf, Spice, Onyx
Hands-on Experience
So, what was it like to actually use this case? The new Clicks keyboard for the iPhone 16 Pro models is a nice step up in both feel and function. The redesigned keys are immediately noticeable – they’re comfortable, responsive, and tactile, making typing a truly enjoyable experience. The contoured shape of the keys naturally fits your fingers, giving each press a satisfying click that feels closer to a traditional keyboard. Clicks mentioned that they made the keys 9% larger than last year’s model, so there are fewer accidental presses, but the redesigned ergonomics are what really make typing easier. If you’re looking for tactile feedback, Clicks definitely hit the spot.
Another highlight is the balanced design. Even though it’s a physical mount, it doesn’t feel too heavy on the iPhone, allowing it to sit comfortably without tilting or weighing down your device. The keyboard is designed to keep the entire screen clear, which is a game changer when it comes to viewing content. Whether you’re streaming video, scrolling through social media, or working on documents, having the entire screen at your disposal – without a virtual keyboard taking up space – really improves the experience.
That said, the Clicks Keyboard is larger, which is something to consider. It’s a good fit for those who know they want a physical keyboard for their iPhone, but it may not be for everyone. I got used to the size pretty quickly, even with the larger iPhone 16 Pro Max model, and it passed my skinny jeans pocket test! So if you’re someone who likes the idea of tactile keys and a full view of the screen, this keyboard hits all the right notes. The typing experience is excellent, and the ability to fully view and interact with media on your iPhone justifies the added storage.

I wish they had made a slider keyboard that you could only take out when needed. Yes, the case would have been much thicker, but this form factor would have made much more sense.
