The iMac, MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini are expected to get the M4 chip later this month in the form of an online event.
While Apple recently announced the seventh-generation iPad mini with a simple press release, the new Macs will reportedly be unveiled at an online event in late October.
In a social media post on Threads, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman says that stocks of Macs and Mac-related products at Apple Stores are currently “very low.” This includes the iMac, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad devices.
According to the post, the iMac and MacBook Pro are expected to get Apple’s M4 chip, which is currently only found in the iPad Pro. The Mac Mini, meanwhile, is set to get a “full-scale redesign,” in line with previous rumors that the device will have a smaller form factor and that it will have a different set of ports.
“I haven’t seen any evidence that Apple will hold a full-scale iPhone-like event at its headquarters with press,” Gurman said. “Instead, I would expect the announcement to focus on an online stream with press, not too dissimilar to last year’s Scary Fast.”
That would be in line with previous Apple events, such as the online iPad event in May 2024, which unveiled updated iPad Pro and iPad Air models.
That event, like the Scary Fast event in October 2023, was not in-person and was streamed online on Apple’s website. Selected members of the press were given the opportunity to interact in person in London and New York.
Gurman previously said he expected new Macs with the M4 chip to launch on November 1, 2024, after the supposed October event.
