Apple Updates Firmware Again for AirPods Pro 2, AirPods 4

Apple's fourth-generation AirPods

Apple has released new firmware for AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4, another software update for its personal audio devices.

Apple has been releasing firmware updates for its AirPods product lines at an unusually high rate, and the relatively high pace of updates continued with the latest AirPods firmware update.

The latest firmware updates, released on Monday, are for the AirPods Pro 2 with Lightning and USB-C Charging Cases, as well as both AirPods 4 models.

It’s unclear what changed in the firmware, build 7B20 for the AirPods 4 and 7B21 for the AirPods Pro 2. The updates will likely include bug fixes and performance improvements for the audio hardware, with full details expected if Apple publishes release notes.

Apple’s last firmware update was for the AirPods 4, which arrived on October 29. This was an update to version 7B19, the same version that was delivered to the AirPods Pro 2 in the previous week's update, but without the Hearing Health features.

Users can't force the AirPods to update, but instead they will update automatically when paired with an iOS device and placed in the charging case.
