Rumors of an M4 upgrade for the MacBook Air in 2025 have been swirling for a while, but information exclusive to AppleInsider suggests the new model will feature Center Stage support with an Ultra Wide camera.
Rumors and leaks typically spread online, with sources including third-party manufacturers, analyst predictions, and rumors. However, in Wednesday’s public releases of operating system updates, the macOS 15.2 download contains some random additions regarding the MacBook Air. The text strings, confirmed by AppleInsider, include references to 13- and 15-inch MacBook Airs equipped with the M4 chip.
In addition to the leak in Wednesday’s macOS release, there are also regulatory documents we’ve found that detail an updated front-facing camera system in the lineup.
The regulatory documents found by AppleInsider make reference to a “front-facing Ultra Wide camera.” This likely means that the M3's 1080p FaceTime HD camera could get an upgrade.
The ultra-wide camera could eventually get Center Stage support on the MacBook Air, or features like Desk View like the M4 MacBook Pro.
