As Apple Intelligence approaches public availability, the first release candidates of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, tvOS 18.1, visionOS 2.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 are now available.
The first release candidates of iOS 18.1, macOS Sequoia 15.1, and iPadOS 18.1 follow the seventh build, which was released on October 14, and for macOS, on October 15. The sixth build was released on October 7. The RC for tvOS 18.1 comes after five developer betas, and visionOS 2.1 after six.
At the time of publication, there was no RC for watchOS 11.1. Since Apple's release list includes all RCs but not watchOS, it is unlikely that an RC for it will be released today.

The new build numbers for iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 are 22B82. The new build of macOS 15.1 is 24B82, visionOS is 22N580, and tvOS 18.1 is 22J6578.
Along with the release candidates, Apple also released an update to iOS 17.7.1 and iPadOS 17.7.1, build number 21H216.
The main difference between iOS 18.1 and 18 is the addition of Apple Intelligence, which includes generative AI and machine learning features. However, not all of the Apple Intelligence features will be available when it is eventually released.
The initial Apple Intelligence features tested included new Siri animations, Type to Siri, better query understanding and contextual awareness, product knowledge, and a range of writing tools.
The third developer beta brought with it a feature called Clean Up for Photos, which allows users to remove unwanted elements from images.
In the fifth build, Apple's iOS 18.1 changes mostly had nothing to do with Apple Intelligence. Changes included enabling drag-and-drop file sharing with iPhone Mirroring in macOS, a new Selfie option for controlling the camera, and adjustments to Control Center.
The sixth build of iOS 18.1 focused on sleep apnea detection, connectivity, and measurement toggles in Control Center, and other features, rather than specifically focusing on Apple Intelligence. Build 7 continued improvements unrelated to Apple Intelligence.
AppleInsider and Apple strongly discourage users from installing test operating systems or other beta or RC software on “mission-critical” or primary hardware due to the remote possibility of issues that could result in data loss. Testers should therefore use secondary or non-primary devices and ensure they have adequate backups of any mission-critical data.
