After releasing release candidates for the update, Apple has moved to a new generation of beta versions for iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2.

Apple released the first release candidates of its operating systems, including iOS 18.1 and others from the same generation, on October 21, and watchOS 11.1 on October 22. Now the company is moving to a new beta round to begin testing more Apple Intelligence features.

The first builds of iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 share the build number 22C5109p. Meanwhile, the initial build of macOS Sequoia 15.2 has the number 24C5057p.

The main features being tested are related to the second wave of Apple Intelligence features. The 18.1 update tested the first wave, but more are being tested in the second wave.

The changes include a new API for existing writing tools so that other apps can take advantage of the feature.

Brand new features on the way include Genmoji, which lets users use predictions to create emoji on the fly. The API will also be available for the feature in other apps.

Image Playground is also included for the first time. This is a feature that allows users to generate images, again using suggestions, that can be inserted into documents.

Again, there will be an API for Image Playground.

Siri is also getting a big change in the beta, finally getting ChatGPT integration. This feature will allow some queries to be handled using ChatGPT instead of the normal Siri response.

iPhone 16 owners will be able to try out Visual Intelligence by asking queries using the iPhone camera.

Finally, there will be an expansion of availability. Apple Intelligence can currently only be used in US English, but it will be available in five new English-speaking regions.

AppleInsider and Apple strongly recommend that users do not install test operating systems or other beta or RC software on “mission-critical” or essential hardware due to the remote possibility of issues that could result in data loss. So testers should use secondary or non-primary devices and make sure they have adequate backups of any critical data.
