Smart Home Rumors from The Apple Display could come in two forms: A version with a robotic arm will be joined by one with an iMac-style base.
Rumors swirling throughout 2024 have floated the idea that Apple is working on more smart home devices to expand its presence in the ecosystem. While rumors have previously discussed a robotic arm, it appears there may be another device in the works.
A Bloomberg newsletter on Sunday reports that Apple is unveiling a second version. This relatively small device appears to have a square display about the size of two iPhones placed side by side.
Harking back to an earlier product design, the device would appear to place the screen at an angle on a small base. This could be similar to the round base of the iMac G4, which could also house speakers and other electronics.
It will run a new operating system with some iPadOS-style apps, so it could be used for general purposes. But the main goal is for it to become a smart home hub.
This new second device will be a much cheaper version than the rumored original model. That means a larger screen on a robotic arm that鈥檚 better suited for media playback and video calls.
The version with the robotic arm is expected to cost around $1,000, and likely has little chance of appearing before 2026. Pricing and a release schedule for the cheaper iMac G4-style product have not been announced.
