While this shouldn't come as a surprise given that Apple only updated the AirPods Max in September, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said today that Apple currently has “no concrete plans” to update the earbuds “in a significant way.”
“I expect the company to keep the Max earbuds in their current form for the foreseeable future,” he added.
The AirPods Max only received two changes in September, including a USB-C charging port instead of Lightning and new color options. The earbuds don't feature Apple's H2 chip that debuted in the AirPods Pro 2 a few years ago, so they still lack Adaptive Audio features and there have been no improvements to active noise cancellation.
That means the AirPods Max still have the H1 chip that Apple introduced in 2019, but the $549 earbuds haven't seen a price cut.
Gurman believes that AirPods Max sales are too low for Apple to justify devoting additional resources to the earbuds. So if you're hoping for bigger improvements in the AirPods Max 2, don't expect too much just yet.
