Apple expands Apple Pencil USB-C capabilities with new firmware update

Apple has released a firmware update for Apple Pencil USB-C released in 2023. It improves the functionality and overall performance of the accessory.

Apple Pencil USB-C, originally released in 2023, shares some design elements with its predecessor. It can be distinguished by its slightly shorter body and hidden USB-C port used for charging and pairing.

Unlike more advanced analogs, the USB-C model does not support wireless charging and does not have features such as pressure sensitivity. These features are reserved for higher-end models.

How to update the Apple Pencil

To check the firmware version Apple Pencil, go to the Settings app on your connected iPad, select General, then About, and finally Apple Pencil. Here in the “Firmware” section the current version number is displayed.

To update the Apple Pencil USB-C firmware, connect it to iPad using a USB-C cable and turn on iPad. The connection triggers the automatic download and installation of the latest firmware.

Apple accessories such as Apple Pencil, AirPods and others are updated automatically, without the ability to initiate an update manually. This is supposed to be an invisible and simple process.
