Apple dominated smartphone sales in 2024 with iPhone 15 Pro Max

iPhone 15 Pro Max

iPhone 15 Pro Max became the best-selling smartphone in the first quarter of 2024, with iPhones taking up half places in the top ten.

Apple and Samsung are still the two best-selling smartphone manufacturers in the world and have been for some time. However, on a per-model basis, it appears that Apple continues to displace its main competitor.

In Counterpoint's list of the ten best-selling smartphones in the world for the first quarter of 2024, the iPhone 15 Pro Max ranks first with a market share of 4.4%. The note, seen by AppleInsider, said the iPhone 15 was second with 4.3%, and the iPhone 15 Pro was third with 3.7%.

In fourth place was the iPhone 14 with a result of 1.9%, slightly ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. The iPhone 15 Plus lags behind in eighth place with a 1.3% share.

The first quarter results are consistent with the first quarter of 2023, where the iPhone 14 led the way with 4.7%, followed by the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 4.3%. At that time, Apple also had five devices in the top ten.

Counterpoint's notes added that this quarter was the first in which all 10 best smartphones were presented. 5G support.

This was also Apple's first non-seasonal quarter in which the Pro Max took first place.

Counterpoint says there has been a major shift in purchasing habits, with half of Apple's total sales in the first quarter coming from the Pro line. In contrast, Pro models made up just 24% of purchases in the first quarter of 2020, four years earlier.

The note emphasizes that this is a clear trend towards premium smartphones. Seven of the top ten were classified as premium, meaning they had a wholesale price of at least $600.

Counterpoint previously reported that Apple dominated throughout 2023. In February, it was revealed that the iPhone took seven positions in the top ten smartphones sold in 2023 for the first time.
