Apple launched new iMac models today, and while there aren't many external changes aside from some color tweaks, Apple has made several internal updates to the machine. The inclusion of the next-generation M4 chip is the biggest upgrade, but the ports have also been improved.
For the M4 iMac models with a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, all four USB-C ports support Thunderbolt 4 data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps. On the M3 iMac, the 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU are all 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, and all four USB-C ports support Thunderbolt 4 data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps. The previous-generation four-port iMac had two Thunderbolt 3 ports and two USB-3 ports.
The 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU models only have two ports, but they're both Thunderbolt 4. All USB-C/Thunderbolt 4 ports also support USB 4 and USB 3.1 Gen 2.
Prices for the iMac start at $1,299 for the 8-core CPU/GPU version, while the 10-core CPU/GPU, four-port models start at $1,499. Apple is taking pre-orders for the new m4 iMac models starting today.
