Apple has released a new firmware update for AirPods Pro 2 that unlocks support for a whole new set of Hearing features Health.
The firmware released Thursday bumps the build number to 7B19 from the previous 7A305. The company’s latest firmware update for the AirPods 2 was rolled out on October 24, following the release of firmware updates intended for developer testing.
At WWDC 2024 in June, Apple announced that the AirPods Pro 2 would be getting a suite of Hearing Health features that include Hearing Test, Hearing Aid, and Hearing Protection. Of the three, the clinical-grade Hearing Aid is designed for users with mild to moderate hearing loss.
Following the FDA’s approval of Apple’s Hearing Health features in September, the settings appeared in the developer betas of iOS 18.1.
The first Hearing Health reviews emerged on October 21, confirming the features’ release date. iOS 18.1 is scheduled to launch on October 28, along with iPadOS 18.1, macOS Sequoia 15.1, and more.
While the focus of the iOS 18.1 update is Apple Intelligence, a set of generative AI features, the software also brings compatibility with the Hearing Health features of the AirPods Pro 2. iOS 18.1 is nearing the end of beta testing, as release candidates for the operating system were released on October 21.
The new firmware update is installed automatically for users on Thursday when AirPods are connected to the charging case and paired with an iOS device. There is no manual installation option for this firmware update.
