The news that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a thicker chassis than the current iPhone 16 Pro Max was first reported in March 2025. It was also reported that this model will receive an expanded vapor cooling system, which can explain the increase in size.
This cooling function is expected to be in both new Pro models, but so far there was no news that the iPhone 17 Pro will also be thicker. The new video, which is distributed by the leader of Majin bu, shows the iPhone 17 Pro Max mannequin, but it seems that this confirms the additional thickness.

Visually, however, the phone in the video apparently corresponds to the previous descriptions. They had an iPhone 17 Pro Max, which is 8.725 mm (0.3435 inches), compared with 8.25 mm of its predecessor (0.3248 inches).
If the additional width is not in order to adapt the cooling system or some other unknown function, this can be the provision of a larger battery. AppleinSider calculated that an increase of 0.5 mm can lead to an increase by 8% of the battery capacity.
