This week, several airlines rolled out support for the new Find My item location sharing feature in iOS 18.2, including British Airways, Lufthansa, Aer Lingus and others.
Currently, 14 airlines have customer support protocols in place to help locate lost luggage using the new Find My feature feature, and the full list includes the following airlines: United, Delta, British Airways, Lufthansa, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Turkish Airlines, Aer Lingus, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Swiss International Airlines, Eurowings, and Iberia Airlines.
After updating to iOS 18.2, the new Share Item Location feature lets you create a link that lets someone see the location of a lost item when they open it. Links can be opened on non-Apple devices using a web browser, so iPhone, iPad, or Mac users can help you find something they lost, like your luggage.
Find My links you share expire after a week, and you can see how many people have viewed the link. Shared links stop working when the item is returned to you, when the link expires, or when you decide to stop sharing the item’s location. Share Item Location uses end-to-end encryption and is anonymous, so Apple and accessory makers cannot view the location or information about the item.
Apple has teamed up with airlines to add support for Share Item Location, and airlines using the feature have employees who know the steps to take to return a lost item to its owner using the Find My feature.
Other airlines planning to add support include Qantas, Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines, and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
