A few weeks before its original release date, Resident Evil 2 was released on M-series Macs, as well as select iPhones and iPads.
Capcom announced Tuesday that the zombie horror classic Resident Evil 2 has officially landed on the App Store. The game was originally scheduled to launch on New Year’s Eve, which means it’s a full three weeks early.
The remake of the classic horror game transports players to 1998 Raccoon City, where a zombie outbreak is underway.
To play Resident Evil 2 on a Mac, you’ll need a PC with an M1 chip or later and macOS Ventura or later. To play on iPad, you’ll need iPadOS 17.0 or later and a device with an M-series or A17 Pro chip.
And iPhone users can join in on the fun, too. Just make sure you’re running iOS 17.0 or later on a device with an A17 Pro chip or later. That currently includes the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, and iPhone 16 Pro lines.
Resident Evil 2 is offered as a free-to-play title, giving players the chance to “try before they buy.” If they like what they play, the full game is available as an in-app purchase for $9.99, with an additional $1.99 in-app purchase that unlocks “all in-game rewards.”
The Resident Evil franchise has been slowly moving into the Apple ecosystem, with Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard already coming to Mac and other Apple platforms in 2024.
