Have you ever placed screenshots in frames on Apple devices? Then you probably used Federico Viticci's “Apple Frames” keyboard shortcut. Unfortunately, in recent months, this keyboard shortcut has stopped working, and we now know that a bug in iOS 18 is to blame.
Keyboard shortcut bug impacting PNG files still unresolved in iOS 18.2
In a new thread on Bluesky, Federico Viticci of MacStories detailed the issues that Apple Frames has been experiencing since the release of iOS 18.
So, the reason I couldn't update my Apple Frames keyboard shortcut for the latest devices is a bug in the iOS/iPadOS App Shortcuts from 07/18/2018, which has not yet been fixed.
For the past few months, the Image Overlay action has always removed alpha transparency from PNGs.
I have no idea how to get around this.
Viticci sent feedback to Apple to try to fix this, but the issue has still not been addressed by Apple in the latest iOS 18.2 beta.
He also notes that there are several Reddit threads where users of other shortcuts are experiencing the same issue with PNGs.
Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for new iOS updates to introduce bugs into the Shortcuts app. However, the continued presence of this bug months after the iOS 18 beta was released and the lack of any available solution for Shortcuts makes this case especially problematic.
Have you encountered the Apple Frames bug or other issues in the Shortcuts app lately? Let us know in the comments.
